The view at Mount Cook, standing at 3724m, is breath-taking.
We did a track called “Sealy Tarns” to see the glacier valley, lakes and the mountains.
The trail is not for the faint-hearted: steep & stepped (2200 steps). We
got warned beforehand of its steepness, and just when we were thinking about
giving up and returning, there was a carving in one of the wooden steps saying “only
1000 more to go. Cheer up”. Going at our own pace, we eventually made our way
up to 3100m. The height gain was around 600m and took us 3.5 hours in total. The
views from the tarns make the effort worthwhile.
